This is the third collectible beer mug from the Discover America special series. The series consists of three models. The other two have numbers #CS107 and #129, issued in 1990 and 1991, respectively. The development of this series was commissioned by the American brewing company Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser). The release of this series became part of the commemorative events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the first expedition of Christopher Columbus to the shores of the new continent. Columbus set out on this historic expedition in 1492. His flotilla consisted of three sailing ships named Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Three beer mugs from this series are dedicated to each of these ships.
The Santa Maria (Spanish: Santa María) is the flagship of the first expedition of Christopher Columbus, on which America was discovered in 1492. It was a three—masted karakka (in some sources it is referred to as "nao" - a large ship). The length was about 21-25 meters, and the capacity was up to 40 people. Together with the Santa Maria, two caravels participated in the voyage - the Pinta and the Ninya. The ship "Santa Maria" did not return to Spain. On Christmas night, December 25, 1492, it landed on the reefs off the coast of the island of Haiti (Hispaniola) and sank. From the wreckage of the crashed ship, the team built the first European settlement in the New World, Fort La Navidad.
