Antique beer mug "Peasants playing bowling". The capacity of the mug is 0.5 liters, the height is 18 cm. The mug was made in 1901 at the famous Villeroy & Boch manufactory. In the Villeroy & Boch catalog, the mold model of this mug has the number 2182. This mug was available as a serving cup complete with a 3.25 liter beer jug. The jug mold in the Villeroy & Boch catalog is numbered 2210. Mugs from this series were also available in 0.25 and 0.3 liter containers.
Our mug is equipped with an inlaid lid. The ceramic insert of the lid is decorated with an image of a smoking pipe and two radish roots. These are the main attributes associated with drinking beer while bowling in those years.
The central facade of the circle depicts a player at the moment of throwing a ball.
The design of the mug is executed in the technique of relief decoration in white on a blue background, which resembles the style of "jasper" ceramics, also known as "cameo".
The cameo porcelain decoration style is an exquisite trend in decorative and applied art, imitating carved bas-reliefs on precious stones (gems). It features high detail, a combination of contrasting colors, and a classic theme.
