Jug for commercial beer delivery -- German kann. It was made in 1913 by the Villeroy & Boch factory by order of K. O. Shitt's Torov house. The capacity of this canna is 1 liter. In the Villeroy & Boch catalog, the mold of this product is registered under the number 2241.
In 1895, patent No. 88333 was issued in Berlin. The object of patent protection is a mechanism for a tight fit of the lid when closing a ceramic vessel. In 1896, the Kannenbier-Versand-Gesellschaft company (full name — Kannenbier-Versand-Gesellschaft m.b.H.) was founded in Berlin. The company was engaged in bottling and delivering beer in special ceramic jugs with an airtight lid (Kannenbier), which allowed the freshness of the drink to last longer. Kannenbier-Versand-Gesellschaft products were protected by the patent of the German Empire No. 88333. The famous Villeroy & Boch manufactory (factory in Metlach) made ceramic jugs with a volume of 1 liter for her. Form No. 2241 was one of them. The advertising slogan of Kannenbier-Versand-Gesellschaft read: "Beer in Cannes tastes like fresh draft beer."
At that time, in high society, cannes was used as cutlery instead of bottles.
In Berlin, kann with beer could be ordered by postcard sent to the Kannenbier-Versand-Gesellschaft. They were then transported to their homes by hand cart, cargo bike, or horse-drawn carriage.
In 1903, the Russian trading house K.O. Shitta decided to introduce a similar service in St. Petersburg. A corresponding agreement was reached with Villeroy & Boch on the annual production of liter cannas with a special painting commissioned by the trading house of K.O. Shitt. The period of cooperation lasted from 1903 to 1914.
The reason for the rupture of relations was the First World War.
The K. O. Schitt Trading House was founded in St. Petersburg in 1818 by the merchant Cornelius Otto Schitt, who was engaged in the wine trade. Trade was conducted through a network of "renskov" (this Russian word comes from the consonance of "Rhenish wines") cellars, of which by the beginning of the 20th century there were more than 37 in St. Petersburg.
In 1910, the trading house of K. O. Shitta, after a second attempt, received the status of supplier to the imperial court. From that moment on, he began ordering kannes with the inscription "K. O. Shitta's Supplier to the Imperial Court."
