An old German glass mug "In memory of the wedding." The capacity of the mug is 0.5 liters, the height is 24 cm. The middle of the mug has a faceted surface. The faceted part of the surface is decorated with hand-painted enamel and the inscription in German "Zum Hochzeitsfest". Translated, it means: "For the wedding party." This indicates that the mug was designed specifically as a memorable gift for the newlyweds.
The product is decorated with voluminous floral painting in the technique of "relief enamel". The picture shows forget-me-nots, roses and wildflowers. Similar decor was popular in Germany and Central Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The mug was made using pressed glass technology in a mold at the German glass factory Sächsische Glasfabrik August Walther & Söhne AG (also known as Walther-Glas), located in Saxony.
The name Sachsische Glasfabrik August Walther & Söhne AG means "Saxon Glass Factory of August Walter and his Sons" in German. August Walter founded his glass factory in 1888 in the suburbs of Dresden, the administrative center of Saxony. In 1897, the Saxon glass factory of August Walter registered a trademark in the form of an imperial crown with the letters "S" and "G". These letters stood for the words "Sachsische" and "Glasfabrik", respectively. Simplified - "Saxon glass".
The pressed glass technology made it possible to apply this trademark as a relief stamp at the time of the mug's creation. The stamp is located on the outer surface of the bottom of the mug. At the same time, the marking of the tankard capacity up to the First World War on glass beer mugs from SG August Walter was applied by hand engraving with a mechanical abrasive. This suggests that this wedding mug was made between 1898 and 1914.
