Stein Reinhold Merkelbach #4127 "Der Kellergeist".
Curly collectible beer mug "Ghost from the basement". The mug has a capacity of 0.5 liters and a height of 20 cm. The mold of this mug is contained in the catalog of finished products of the famous German manufactory Reinhold Merkelbach under the number 4127 under the name "Der Kellergeist" (Cellar spirit). The English name of this form is "Barrel Man" (Man in a barrel). The stamp of the Goebel factory is applied on the outside of the bottom of the mug. There is nothing contradictory about this. In 1971, 50% of the shares of Merkelbach Manufaktur KG were sold to W. Goebel KG. After that, in addition to the Reinhold Merkelbach brand, the Goebel mark could be found on the molds. Based on this, it follows that this mug was made after 1971.
The mug is made in the form of a man, whose torso is a barrel, and a funnel-shaped hat is on his head.
The name given to this mug by the manufacturer is inspired by the poem "Der Kellergeist" (The Ghost of the Cellar), written in 1814 by Gustav Schwab (1792-1850). It tells about the friendly spirit that guards the wine cellar at night. Please note that here the character is holding a foaming mug of beer in his hands, not a wine glass, as it is usually depicted, but, of course, beer cellars also sometimes need protection.
