The "Old Testament Stories" mug. This collectible German beer mug was made in 2008 at the KING-WERK factory in Germany. It has a capacity of 2 liters and a height of 42 cm. The mug was produced in a limited edition of 2,500 pieces, with each piece assigned a unique number and accompanied by a special certificate. This mug has the number 363, and there is no other mug with the same number. This adds to its collectible value.
The mug is decorated with scenes from the Old Testament and is a tribute to Melchizedek, the king of Jerusalem, also known as the king of honesty. He is celebrated for being the first priest to use only bread and water as a sacrifice to God, rejecting the tradition of sacrificing animals and even humans. The top panel depicts Abraham, who is stopped by an angel of God from sacrificing his son Isaac. On the middle panel, Melchizedek gives Abraham bread and water to offer as a sacrifice to God. On the bottom panel, Melchizedek blesses Abraham. These three panels are repeated on both sides in monochrome. The panels are surrounded by ornate and finely crafted ornaments, including overflowing cornucopias, flowers, and leaves.
This beer mug was originally created around 1880 by Peter Dumler (1860-1907). In 2008, KING-WERK GmbH. accurately reproduced it.
Designer Peter Dümler was born in 1860. He died in 1907. He worked from 1878 to 1907. He created beer mug models for the famous German factories Dümler & Breiden, Albert Jacob Thewalt, and Reinhold Hanke. Peter Dümler designed this mug in 1880 for Reinhold Hanke. In the Reinhold Hanke product catalog, the mold for this mug was given the number 882. Peter Dumler was only 20 years old at the time.
