The Gothia fraternity club.
This antique beer mug was made in 1914 at the famous Villeroy & Boch manufactory. The capacity of the mug is 0.5 liters. In the catalog of finished products of Villeroy & Boch, the mold of this mug has the number 1526 and the name "Various themes". A significant part of the mugs of this mold were produced without factory registration. This allowed them to be used for coloring according to individual order. Members of various student communities actively used this opportunity. They ordered such mugs for themselves with the symbols of their student associations painted on them.
The artistic painting of this mug was made by individual order of the members of the student fraternity Gothia. The central place in the drawing is occupied by the coat of arms of the brotherhood with the inscription "Gothia sei's Panier!" on top of it. Translated from German, it means: "Let Gothia be our banner!"  In the lower part of the central drawing of the beer mug, the motto of the Gothia student fraternity is written in German: "Ehre, Freundschaf, Wissnschaf". Translated, it means: "Honor, friendship, knowledge."
The Gothia Student Fraternity was founded on March 5, 1890 in Charlottenburg, a suburb of Berlin. Already on June 5, 1891, the Gothia was transformed into a free fraternity, and in the following winter semester, 1891/92, it was accepted into the Niederwalder Deputy Monastery, an umbrella organization of technical student fraternities. In 1919, he and his successor, the Rudesheim Association of German Fraternities, became part of the German Fraternity.
After enabling the city Charlottenburg is a part of In 1920, the Technical University of Charlottenburg changed its name to Technical University of Berlin . Since then, the Goth student fraternity has been known as the Gothia Berlin Student Fraternity.
