Marzi & Remy #1767 "Landsknecht Toasting"

Marzi & Remy - mold 1767

From the collection of Paulo Vik Falcon

Stein "Landsknecht Toasting".
This beer mug is made at the Marzi & Remi manufactory in a complex technique of engraving on porcelain. On the body of the mug is depicted Landsknecht with the saying: "Guter Trunk u. guter Muth kommt dem ganzen Land zu gut". Translated from the German language, it means "A good drink and a good mood are good for the whole country". Landsknecht is a serf, which his master used for military purposes. These soldiers of fortune often moved from one landowner to another, and in some ways were the equivalent of modern-day mercenaries, with the important difference that they could not choose their own employer. On the inlaid lid, there is an inscription "Zum Wohl". Translated from German, this means "To your health!". This is a well-known German toast.
