"Munich Child" Reinhold Hanke

Reinhold Hanke - mold 1650

From the collection of Paulo Vik Falcon

This large figurine mug in the form of a "Munich child" has a capacity of 1 liter. The mug was made by the renowned Reinhold Hanke manufactory.
Reinhold Hanke founded his factory in 1868 in Hoer in the westerwald.
The manufactory named after him is considered by many to be the pioneer of the "historicism" style, which is now associated with westerwald ceramic mugs. After Hanke's death in 1886, his wife managed the company until 1901, when it was taken over by his son, August Hanke, who continued to run the factory until his death in 1938, after which production was effectively halted. In the catalog of the Reinhold Hanke manufactory, this "Munich Child" is listed under the number 1650. This number is imprinted on the outer surface of the bottom of our mug.
The "Munich Child" mugs of the 1650 form of the Reinhold Hanke manufactory were produced in two variations. The variations differed in the two different covers on the lid (heads). In one case, the child's head was depicted vertically, as in our case. In the second variation, the head was depicted with a slight tilt to the left.
