Reinhold Merkelbach made beer steins 1882-2007, this Monk #256 is about 7" tall. The Beer Stein Library only lists a Nun with this mold #265. There isn't a capacity mark and only 265 on the base, no Merkelbach logo or Germany. 1887 it was required to have Germany or Made in Germany on all exports. It's possible it was made 1882-1886, or sold in the German market and somehow found it's way to the USA.
