Stein body is of unknown metal, completly hand painted inside and out. The lid and fittings are pewter. The text translates as best I can make out is "Remembrance of the joy of leaving prison - Amberg" Amberg prison was a long time prison in Amberg, Bavaria. It was one of the places where Jews were held during WWII.
