Reinhold Hanke "Germans & Romans", no. 1268

Reinhold Hanke - mold 1268

From the collection of Chuck Huseman

Translation:

"Italy’s wine so sweet and fine broke the Romans brittle bones.
However, beer and radish juice forever maintain young German strength."

Central image is taken from an illustration by Heinrich Schlitt (1849-1923), part of an 1890 mural that once graced the Wiesbaden Ratskeller, but was sadly destroyed in World War II.
