The "Wedding Gift" mug.
This antique porcelain beer mug with a capacity of 0.5 liters was made using lithophany technique. She made it possible to decorate the bottom of the mug with a pattern that is visible through the light. In our case, the lithophany of the bottom of the mug contains a dance scene of the inhabitants of the Bavarian Alps. This story became popular among artisans and buyers of mugs after the Austrian-Bavarian painter Franz von defregger (1835-1921) celebrated the life of the inhabitants of the Bavarian and Tyrolean Alps in his paintings. The mug could have been made by Dorfner & Co. as a wedding gift. These factors suggest that this mug was made in the period 1885-1890.
On the body of the mug is an image of a bouquet of flowers tied with a ribbon with the inscription in German "Zum Hochzeitsfest ...", which translates as "Wedding celebration".
