This item is a collectible beer glass (stein) with a lid depicting the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. This is the second model in a special series of collectible Anheuser-Busch stein lighthouses. The series consists of four mug models made in the form of historical lighthouses in the USA.
The tin lid has a detailed ceramic insert that forms the top of the lighthouse. The tin thumb rest is made in the form of a lifebuoy.
The Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse is located near Annapolis, Maryland, USA, and is the last remaining cottage-type pile lighthouse on its original foundation in the USA.
In 1999, the lighthouse was declared a National Historic Landmark and is managed by the Lighthouse Society of the United States in partnership with the City of Annapolis and the Annapolis Maritime Museum.
The lighthouse was first lit on November 28, 1875. The 3.5-order Fresnel lens showed a flashing red light every 20 seconds. This feature contradicts the color standard, according to which red should be on the right side of the channel at the entrance to the port, upriver or into the bay, which was established by the Lighthouse Board shortly after it took over in 1852. The automatic fog bell rang three times every 30 seconds. Since the mechanisms and the bell were located on the same level as the bedrooms, this must have led to sleepless nights.
