Farmers Occupational

Uit de verzameling van Andrew Ives

Blown glass, most likely Bohemian. Slight taper toward the top and a more pronounced taper toward the bottom, with a formed foot ring. The shape may place it somewhere in the mid-Biedermeier period, around the time the Biedermeier pedestal shape became the popular design. A thick, scrolled handle was applied.
The stein is enamel painted with the tools of the farmer's trade, with a bit of a folk art look which was popular in the early 1800's.
The closed 5 ring hinge is appropriate for the time period. The conical shape thumb lift also rough dates the stein to the early 1800's (c.1825 per The Beer Stein Book).
Lid is personalized "M.K.".
