Cylindrical (Walzenkrug) shaped pewter stein. Holds approximately 1 liter. It was common to see rorken shaped steins and steins with flared bases coming from producers in Northern Germany (mainly Saxony). Steins produced in Southern German towns that bordered, or were in close proximity to the Northern German region, may also exhibit these attributes.
Wrigglework decorations in the pewter were common around 1800 and into the Biedermeier Period.

The large closed 5 ring hinge and hollow ball thumb lift are appropriate for the time period. The lid is personalized with the initials "F. R." and dated 1834.
The pewter mark was located in Die Deutcchen Zinngiesser und Ihre Marken Band V
Süddeutsche Zinngiesser Teil I: Aalen/Kronach by Erwin Hintze, page 250, #1254.
It was identified as belonging to Johann Nicolaus Hohenner d.j. from the Bavarian town of Hof, which is located less than 3 miles west of the border with Saxony and approximately 6 miles south of the border with Thuringia.
