The mug was made in 2006 at the German factory Albert Stahl & Co. as part of a special small limited series of 300 pieces. The order came from the importer-distributor M. Cornell. At the bottom of the mug there is a label with the inscription "Exclusive product from David Harr/www.charactersteins.com".

Now, let's delve into the history of the "Sad Clown Guido" character.
"Sad Clown Guido" is a composite character based on two different characters from Federico Fellini's films.
Guido and the Sad Clown appear in two different Fellini films, but they have one thing in common.

1. The Sad Clown.
The image of the sad clown, which represents the tragicomic nature of life, appears in several of Fellini's films, including "The Clowns" (1970).
At the end of "The Clowns," a group of sad clown musicians performs music, and the final image on the screen is a boy playing a flute, reminiscent of Guido's own childhood. This is a reference to the past and nostalgia.
This image of a sad clown is similar to the character of Gelsomina from the movie "The Road."

2. Guido.
Guido Anselmi is the main character in the movie "Eight and a Half" (1963), played by Marcello Mastroianni.
Guido is a director who is going through a creative crisis. He is not a clown, but his story is about inner struggles, memories, and the search for self.
According to some critics, Guido's search for his own path in art reflects Fellini's own experiences. It was in the film "Eight and a Half" that Fellini transformed the original tragic concept into a comedic one, introducing the theme of clowns to convey sensitivity and reinterpretation.
Thus, "Sad Clown Guido" is most likely a combination of the nostalgic image of the sad clown from the movie "Clowns" and the character Guido from the movie "Eight and a Half."
