Now, here's a little history about how the character of "Sad Clown Guido" came to be.
"Guido the Sad Clown" is a memory or a blending of two different characters from Federico Fellini's work.
Guido and the Sad Clown appear in two different Fellini films, but they share a common theme.
1. The Sad Clown.
The image of the Sad Clown, which represents the tragicomic nature of life, appears in several of Fellini's films, including "The Clowns" (1970).
At the end of the film "Clowns," a group of sad clown musicians performs music, and the last image on the screen is a boy with a flute, reminiscent of Guido's own childhood. This is a reference to the past and nostalgia.
This image of a sad clown is similar to the character of Gelsomina in the film "The Road."
2. Guido.
Guido Anselmi is the main character in the film "Eight and a Half" (1963), portrayed by Marcello Mastroianni.
Guido is a director who is going through a creative crisis. He is not a clown, but his story is about inner struggles, memories, and trying to find himself.
Guido's search for his own path in art, according to some critics, reflects Fellini's own experiences. It was in the film "Eight and a Half" that Fellini changed the original tragic concept into a comedic tone, introducing the theme of clowns to show sensitivity and reinterpretation.
Thus, "Sad Clown Guido" is most likely a combination of the nostalgic image of the sad clown from the movie "Clowns" and the character of Guido from the movie "Eight and a Half."
