Ernst Bohne Söhne (Ernst Bohne's sons), founded in 1848 by the German porcelain artist Ernst Bohne and passed on to his sons after his death in 1856, is considered one of the leading manufacturers of figured porcelain of its time.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Ernst Bohne Söhne flourished and received several national and international awards for its work. The culmination was the gold medal awarded in 1915 at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition dedicated to the opening of the Panama Canal. It was the company's last award. With the outbreak of the First World War in 1914, its future was sealed. By 1919, production had virtually ceased, and Ernst Bohne's heirs were forced to sell the Gebr company. Heubach (Heubach brothers), a porcelain manufacturer from the city of Lichte, which today is perhaps best known for its high-quality porcelain dolls.
Heubach continued to operate the factory in Rudolstadt under the Bohne brand until 1930, when the deteriorating economic situation in Germany led to the bankruptcy of the company.
