Hauber & Reuther 443 Westerwald

Hauber & Reuther - mold 443

From the collection of Walter Swett

This 1/2 liter, etched pottery, Hauber and Reuter stein depicts a mill scene. The text translates to " In a cool valley a mill wheel turns". According to the Beer Stein Library (BSL), the text is from the 1810 poem " In einem Kuehlen Grunde" by Joseph Von Eichendorff that was later set to music in 1814 Johann Glueck. The BSL indicates the stein is signed by the artist using the initial "B". After an extensive search of the stein, I found a mark to the right of the woman's right shoulder that could possibly be a horizontal "B", but I am unsure.
