glass stein 19th C.

From the collection of Paul Van Eck

Lid inscription: J.C. Campagne

From Amsterdam city Archive. Dated july 1851

A heavy glass stein made in the end of the 19th century.

This glass was acquired by me in 2011 in Amsterdam. Both body and style indicate a mid- to late 19th century production era.

The inscription on the lid is of the original owner: J.C. Campagne. The Amsterdam city archives have a mention of a person called J.C. Campagne. It is for a male called Jan Cornelis Campagne, born 30 July 1851 at address Overtoom 14. It is possible that this glass stein actually belonged to that same mr Campagne. If that is so, then this glass probably dates to circa 1870~1900 (since I do not expect it would have been given to him as a child).
