This is a collectible beer mug (Seidel) from the German brewery Gaffel Kölsch from the series "Annual Mug" (German: Jahreskrug). This copy was released in a limited edition in 1994. The mug is made of dark blue ("cobalt") glass with gold and silver decoration. The central medallion depicts Ernst Friedrich Zwirner, the famous German architect who supervised the construction of Cologne Cathedral from 1833 until his death. His title is Dombaumeister (chief builder of the cathedral) under his portrait. The design uses the coat of arms and architectural elements of Cologne, including the silhouette of the Cologne Cathedral.
The mug is equipped with a tin lid with the manufacturer's stamp. The stamp has the phrase "REIN ZINN" and the word "RASTAL". REIN ZINN means "pure tin" in German. This indicates the high quality of the alloy (usually at least 90-95% tin), which is safe for use with food. RASTAL is the name of the manufacturer, the German company Rastal GmbH & Co. KG, which has been specializing in the production of tableware for beverages (glasses, mugs, glasses) since 1919.
Gaffel Kölsch (Privatbrauerei Gaffel) is one of the oldest and largest breweries in Cologne, founded in its current form by the Becker brothers in 1908. The brewery is closely connected with the culture of the city and regularly produces collectible tableware with historical motifs.
