The central scene is a map of France, the right side scene depicts a Caduceus, the Branch Insignia of the U.S. Army Medical Corp. The finishing firm Schmidt, Koblenz, Bogenstr. 105 and distributed by the firm Willi Geck, Erbach/Rheingau.

Although Gilmore's unit is not specifically identified on the stein, the markings indicate he was probably assigned to the U.S. Army Hospital, Toul, France, operated by the 57th Field Hospital. The hospital was built post WWII and dedicated on August 30, 1957. Its mission was to support elements of TASCOMEUR.
