Incised stoneware stein depicting a horse and rider.
According to the listing in the Beer Stein Library, this stein first appeared in the 1938 Reinhold Merkelbach sales catalog.
The handle appears to be a variation of handle RM-16 listed in the BSL handle gallery.
According to Steinmarks.com, the Merkelback mark on the base is dated after 1936, when Grenzhausen combined with Höhr to form Höhr-Grenzhausen, and into the 1960's.
The "Made in Germany" mark on the bottom was used ca.1887 to 1945 and post-1990. From 1946 to 1949, it would have more than likely been marked "French Zone".
