The old German beer mug "Boy's Hunt" was made at the Marzi & Remy factory in the period 1990-1910. The capacity of the mug is 0.5 liters. The mug pattern is executed in a complex and time-consuming ceramic etching technique. The highest possible use of manual labor significantly increases the value of such a product.
In the catalog of finished products of Marzi & Remy, the mold of this mug is present under the number 1635. It is important to pay attention to the fact that in this case the mold number is applied not only to the outer surface of the bottom, but also to the main body of the mug in the place behind the handle. This is considered a rare technique for Marzi & Remy products.
The lid is inlaid with a ceramic insert with the image of a woman with the shooting target. Simpler versions of such mugs could be produced with lids without inlay, so this option is considered more rare and valuable among collectors.
There are two inscriptions in German to the left and right of the handle.
The inscription to the right of the handle: "Becher und Hörnerklang" means "Goblet and the sound of horns". This phrase is a quote from a famous German poem (and a popular song) under the title "Der Mai ist gekommen" ("May has come"), written by the poet Emanuel Geibel in 1834.
The phrase conveys an atmosphere of joy, celebration and closeness to nature. It is often associated with May festivities, hunting and traditional German hospitality.
The Goblet is considered in German culture to be a symbol of feasting, friendship and life with a "full Goblet".
Hörnerklang (The sound of bugles) - refers to the sounds of hunting or post horns, which in German culture symbolize the beginning of a journey, spring and the awakening of nature.
The inscription to the left of the handle is a continuation of the previous phrase. "Schall' all mein Leben lang" means: "Sound the song of joy all my life." This phrase is part of a longer expression celebrating the joys of life.: "Ein Trunk beim Sang, ein Sang beim Trunk, das treibe man sein Leben lang"
(A sip to a song, a song to a sip — this is how you should spend your whole life). For more information, see the link:
