Fullcolor historismus jug

August Saeltzer - mold 250

From the collection of Paul Van Eck

A very decorative lidded jug in the historismus style. Made circa 1860~1890.
Model number 250B impressed into the base.

The stoneware jug itself may have been produced by J.W. Remy or one of the other factories active at the time. It is fairly certain that this jug was decorated in the paint shop of the August Saeltzer factory in Eisenach, Germany. Saeltzer is known to have bought products from different producers in order to decorate them. [link]

Height excluding the pewter lid is 23cm (9in).
Total height is 29cm (11.5in)
