He was a member of The Munich Association of Artists and exhibited his paintings, in particular, at the Munich Glass Palace. Although he lived in Munich, he spent summers in Mittenwald for more than 50 years, starting in 1879, where he created most of his works. His circle of friends included artists Wilhelm Label and Lovis Corinth . Lovis Korint painted two oil portraits of Preels in 1901 and 1913.
Preels was a member of the world famous "Munich School". The influence of Franz von defregger is evident in his pictorial style. One of his most famous works is "Grandfather and Granddaughter" (1905). His work has also been published in the magazine Die Gartenlaube. His father was a Dresden playwright and literary critic. Robert Preels (1821-1906).
The painting in the image is the work of the German artist Friedrich Anton Prelss (1855-1934). It is known as the "Tavern Scene" (Wirtshausszene) or "Come and Sit Down" (Come and Sit Down).
