A stoneware jug, produced by the company Charles Meigh, circa 1842~1860.
A identical (but unlidded) example is in the collection of the V&A museum, where they describe it as:
'Jug of white stoneware. Octagonal body moulded with ecclesiastical figures in eight Gothic niches. The angular loop handle and curved mouth and lip are moulded with bearded masks and Gothic ornament.' See: [link]
The V&A say their example is just 15.6cm in height. My jug measures 24cm. It may be that the information on the V&A website is incorrect with regards to the height.
The company Charles Meigh was a earthenware manufacturer at the Old Hall Works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, operating under that name between 1835 and 1849. Website thepotteries.org has a page dedicated to the company, also showing this jug: [link]
The jug design was registered by Charles Meigh on 17 March 1842.
