Stein Villeroy & Boch #1725 “Lovers”. [link]
A video about this mug can be viewed at the link: [link]
The mug was made in 1897 at the famous Villeroy & Boch factory in Metlach. In the Villeroy & Boch catalog, the mold of this mug has the number 1725. The mug is topped with an inlaid lid. A heart with an arrow is depicted on the ceramic insert of the lid. This composition is considered a symbol of love. The lid pattern is executed in the technique of moderate relief. The drawing of the mug itself is made in the technique of fine engraving on ceramics. This technique of applying jewelry to ceramics is considered the most difficult and expensive. This is completely manual and highly skilled labor.
In the lower part of the drawing you can see the signature of the author of the mug design. The signature belongs to the German artist and designer Christian Warth (1836-1890 years of life). Kristian Warth was one of the most prolific and sought-after artists at Villeroy & Bach. He managed to develop about 60 molds for beer mugs for Villeroy & Boch. They continued to be produced for many years even after the Wart passed away.
