Beer glass mug for students of the Eberswald Forest Academy.
The antique glass mug is made in the style of "Tubingen igel" (hedgehog). This style of glass beer mugs has gained popularity thanks to the University of Tubingen Student Association. The mug is made using the technology of glass blowing into a mold. This is completely manual labor. Glass mugs of this shape began to be produced around the 1850s in the glass workshops of the city of Tubingen.
The mug is equipped with a tin lid with a brass insert decorated with a story about a hunting bivouac. The picture shows a sign with the inscription Schoning. It means "Careful attitude". It follows from this that the circle belonged not just to a hunter, but to a member of a hunting club, which took care of the reasonable destruction of forest biological resources, as well as engaged in their reproduction.
The names of the key members of this club are engraved on the rim of the lid. 1896/1897 is the start season of their activities.
The names are engraved on the lid "K. Thielmann" and "J. A. Hasselström", as well as "Z.FR.ERG, Eberswalde" and the date "W.S. 1896/97". Eberswalde is a city in Germany. "W.S. 1896/97" can mean the winter semester of the 1896/97 academic year.
The inscription on the sign is hard to read. The second reading is "Schenno". Most likely, this indicates membership in a student or hunting organization. Both are possible.
Conclusion. This mug could become a memorable souvenir of two students who became friends on a hunting trip. In 1830, the Berlin Forestry Academy was moved to Eberswald. That's why I think it's a group of hunting students from the Eberswald Forest Academy.
