In the Marzi & Remy factory catalog, the mold for this mug has the number 992. It has the name "Various Subjects".
This body style served as the base for a variety of different central decorations.
Pottery or stoneware; transfer; 1.0L, 0.5L or 0.25L; pewter lid. In my case, the volume is 0.5 liters. See the link: [link]
The mug has a stamp with the combination of letters M&R. H. This stamp was used by the Marzi & Remy factory to mark their products between 1890 and 1990. See the link: [link]
The outer surface of the bottom has an ink stamp with the words "Wieseler & Beeri Nurnberg". Theodor Wieseler was the founder of this company.
Between 1880 and 1882 he was a representative for F.W. Auerbach in Magdeburg (wholesalers of porcelain, earthenware, blown and table glassware). He joined the Bavarian army for one year, after which he became a representative, covering Bavaria, Baden & Württemberg for C. W. Scheffler of Leipzig, a glass wholesaler. In 1885 he opened a new branch of C. W. Scheffler Niederlage, situated in Köhnstraße, Nuremberg. At the beginning of 1886 he purchased a property in Schoppershofstraße, moved the business and changed its name to Süddeutsche Glasmanufaktur - Theodor Wieseler.
In 1889/90, Julius Beeri became a partner for four or five years, with a new company Theodor Wieseler. As a result, Wieseler & Beeri was founded, which specialized in artistic painting of ceramics and glass.
Julius Beeri was known to have signed a contract on behalf of Wieseler & Beeri - C.W. Scheffler in 1891. After 1894 he disappeared from the company records and by 1899 had disappeared from Nuremberg address books. See the link: [link]
By comparing the above events and dates, we can conclude that the mug was made and decorated between 1890 and 1894.
The decoration of the mug shows that it was made as a commemorative souvenir for the participants of the shooting tournament. The central part of the drawing features the chevron of the 4th Dragoon Regiment of Wilhelm II's Imperial German Army.
The lid is engraved with the inscription "Prosit Kamerad", which means "To your health, comrade!" in German. In Germany, this was a toast used by fellow soldiers.
