In the catalog of Villeroy & Boch products, this mug is listed as item 1932. It is titled "The Cavaliers Are Drinking." The mug is crafted using a sophisticated technique of ceramic engraving. The design of the mug's decoration was created by the renowned artist Christian Warth in the late 19th century. Christian Warth was born on April 21, 1836, in Birkenfeld. In early 1890, he suffered a severe stroke and passed away on March 28, 1890. For more information, please visit the following link: [link]
Warth's products were very popular commercially. Many of them were produced at the Villeroy & Boch factories until at least 1906.
This mug was made in 1899, although its design was created by Christian Warth long before 1890.
On the right side of the mug, there is a German inscription that reads "Ein Glas beim Freund." This translates to "A Glass with a Friend." To the left of the handle, there is a continuation of the phrase "ist gut gemeint." Translated, it means "it is done from the best of intentions." Taken together, these two phrases represent an old and popular German toast: "A glass at a friend's is well-intentioned!”
