"Leader of the pack".
This large beer mug is dedicated to the animal world of the ancient German forest. The wolf has always been highly respected in Germany. Various works of art have been dedicated to it. This mug is made of durable porcelain stoneware using high-relief techniques. The lid is designed in a unique 3D format for this type of mug, providing a complete sculptural resemblance to the original object. In this case, it is a large wolf head. The line of these mugs includes products with different sizes of the wolf head on the lid. This mug is the largest in the series. Therefore, it is called "The Pack Leader."
On the outside of the bottom of the mug, there are several manufacturer's imprints. These marks allow us to confidently state that the mug was manufactured in 1995 by Thewalt (Albert Jacob Thewalt). This is one of the oldest and highly respected manufacturing companies in Germany. The factory was established by Albert Jacob Thewalt and Jean Paulus in 1882 and was known as Paulus & Thewalt.
On July 1, 1894, Jean Paulus left this partnership to establish his own company. After the First World War, Thewalt was succeeded by his son, Albert Johann (born December 16, 1884, died March 19, 1957), and then by his grandson, Albert Jacob (born August 6, 1926).
Thewalt's production of Stein ended definitively on October 31, 2009. However, in January 2011, the right to produce using some of Thewalt's selected forms was sold to King-Werk.
These mugs are produced using traditional methods and materials in a limited edition of 2,500 pieces and are labeled "Thewalt 1893" & "Made in Germany." For more information about Thewalt, please visit the following link: [link]
Many of the molds Thewalt developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are still in use today. This is one of them. In the old Thewalt factory catalog, it is listed as number 111.
