Cold War Stein

From the collection of Randy Satterfield

The front of the stein reads 94th Engineer Battalion and has their insignia. The 94th (Wolverines) were located in Nellingen, Germany in 1955 until being e-located to Darmstadt in 1972 and in 1992 to Vilseck, Grafenwohr and Hohenfels, Germany. The gilt, hand written script accross the top of the stein says "October 1962 Nellingen - Germany June 1964". On the bottom front in hand written gilt is "Lt. Michael J. Johnston". On the left side is the coat of arms of Stuttgart and on the right side is a painted scene from Stuttgart. Stuttgart is close by Nellingen in Baden-Württemberg. I guess the finisher didn't have anything interesting for the side views from Nellingen.

The lithophane is not the usual naked lady but rather a fully clothed one. The lid has the Engineer's finial and the Bavarian lion thumblift.
