Hasenbräu Augsburg - Gegr 1589 - Masskrug
~ Hasenbräu Augsburg - Gegr (undet) 1589 ~
The brewery with the hare is one of the oldest breweries in the city of Augsburg and was founded at Bäckergasse 17. In 1464, it was first mentioned in a document that a brewer owned the property. The brewery traces it origins to the year 1534, when it shared its premises with bakery. In 1589, the year on the stein, the brewery became independent from the bakery. See references for more rich a d storied history of the Hasenbräu Brauerei in Augsburg, Germany.
This saltglazed stoneware mug’s design in the traditional blue prominently features the brewery’s logo, the hare seemingly about to leap off the mug. Unfortunately, this one has a huge chip, more like a chunk of stoneware damage near the base. Fortunately, it does not affect the integrity of the mug; it’s solid.
