Post-Brauerei Weiler - Maßkrug

Post-Brauerei Weiler - Maßkrug

This 1-liter “1L” salt-glazed stoneware Masskrug features a smooth beige-cream body with no visible potter’s wheel lines, suggesting it was mold-formed rather than hand-thrown. It is likely from the 1950s–1960s based on the lidless form, incised front-center capacity mark, calibration line style, and design style. I’m satisfied to simply call it Post WW2 era. Though not extremely rare, it is a handsome example from one of the more historically continuous “Post” breweries still active today.

About the Brewery:

Post-Brauerei Weiler, located in Weiler-Simmerberg in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, is one of the historic Post breweries still operating today. Founded in 1650, it has remained a family-owned operation for generations and continues to brew traditional Bavarian lagers, including a well-regarded Hell and Dunkel. Unlike many regional breweries that were bought up or consolidated during the 20th century, Post-Brauerei Weiler has maintained its independence, staying local and deeply rooted in the culture and beer heritage of the Allgäu.

A Note About “Post” Breweries in Germany:

While the horn logo is similar to other “Postbräu” steins from towns like Thannhausen or Nesselwang, each “Post” brewery was typically its own independent operation, with the name “Post” referring to the historic connection to postal inns (Poststationen) where beer was brewed and served to travelers. This makes it easy to confuse them as branches of a single entity, but they were separate, each representing its own town and brewing lineage.

As always, I welcome and appreciate your feedback.
