Frauenadler (eagle woman)

Frauenadler (eagle woman), is a mythical creature with the head and breasts of a woman and the body of an eagle, has been a symbol of the City of Nuremberg since at least the 17th century.

This is a late 19th century interpretation of a form that dates back to around 1550. Bearded man jugs (Bartmankruge) feature the face of a bearded man at the neck representing the mythical woodland Wild Man of Germanic folklore, a symbol of strength and endurance.
