Bayreuther Bierbrauerei AG - Maßkrug
BREWERY BACKGROUND
Bayreuther Bierbrauerei AG
• Location: Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany
• Founded: 1857 (though brewing traditions in Bayreuth go back much further)
• Current Status: Best I can tell, still in operation, known today as Bayreuther Bierbrauerei AG under the umbrella of the Bayreuther Brauhaus (a brand of the Maisel family since 2005)
• Famous for: Their Bayreuther Hell, Zwick’l Kellerbier, and strong adherence to traditional Bavarian brewing standards.
DATE ESTIMATE
Given:
• The incised side “1L” marking
• Smooth glaze with interior turn lines
• Absence of a lid or mounting hole
• Blue printed logo in a modern but not stylized font
Estimated date: 1950s–1970s
These steins were commonly used in beer halls, festivals, and promotional contexts. The fact that it lacks a maker’s mark or a lid suggests it was made specifically for utilitarian use — robust, reusable, and functional.
As always, I welcome and appreciate your feedback.
