Burl wood stein made in the Norwegian style with three legs and an extra stabilizer leg on the handle. The handle is pegged to the body and the thumblift is carved separately and pegged to the handle, it's about 6-1/2" to the top of the thumblift. The grain in this burl is absolutory gorgeous.
Burl wood or burled wood is a particular grain of wood that can be found on a number of different tree species. It comes comes from trees that are deformed or stressed by illness or infestation. Burled woods are little (or big) knotty growths that form at the base of tree stumps as a result of bud tissue that has failed to sprout.
