Zacherlbräu

Beautiful and a real treasure with historical value!!

Wow!! Fancy lettering and bright, bold colors!!

Open 5 Ring Hinge does not appear until around 1895 and continued to be used well into the twentieth century.

Lid style is thick relief pewter (pre-WWI, 1875–1914).

Monk holding a sign in his right hand, symbolizing perhaps the sun and life with Salvator at its core? Sounds good whatever the meaning. Ha ha.

Recessed base - no marks.

Franz Xaver Zacherl (officially Zächerl ; * 1772 in Munich ; † 16 September 1849 in the suburb of Au ) was a Bavarian brewer, maltster and member of parliament.

Zacherlbräu

I may be wrong, but I don’t think I am, if it were not for FRANZ ZACHERL, Salvator beer and Paulaner Brauerei may not be with us today. At any rate, Franz Zacherl is a key figure in the history of Salvator beer and later Paulaner Brauerei. If you only read one of my references below, read the first one: “The Real Story of Doppelbock”.

I feel this stein, Zacherl=Brau, is part of the Salvator and Paulaner history and story. I am very happy and grateful to be able to care and enjoy this stein, while sharing the story of Zacherlbräu and Franz Zacherl.

**circa **1895 – 1914
(very possibly narrowed to around 1895–1910)
