Blown glass.  Slight taper from bottom to top, thick base, applied rounded handle, applied blue prunts.  Wheel cut design.  The practice of grinding/polishing pontil marks smooth can be observed on glass steins beginning c.1870.
Ornate thumb lift and lid.  Heavy open 3 ring hinge.  
Between c.1875-1895 was a period of transition from the closed hinge to open hinge, thumb lifts were also beginning to be moved over the hinge during this time.  Heavy open 3 ring hinges were seen in use during this period.
The pewter marks on the shaft are currently unidentified.
