Merkelback & Wick made steins 1872-1921, but this stein only has a M&W 1/2 capacity mark and GESETZLICH SCHCHUTZT (Legally Protected). They were marked T.W. for Theodor Wieseler and subsequent retailed by Kunstgewerre-Haus GG. Leykauf. This is a Nurnberg (Nuremberg) souvenir. Ich alt Nurnbergerin bracht' sunst den Tod. Jetzt helf' ich durst'gen aus der Notb. (I old woman of Nurnberg once brought death. Now I help rescue the thirsty.) When I bought this stein the paper label was still on the bottom. I covered it with a piece of clear plastic (no adhesive) and then covered both with clear adhesive tape. This way I can remove the tape without damaging the sticker.
