Hauber & Reuther - mold 129

From the collection of Mike Finn

Early Freising factory, pre-Hauber & Reuther stein, designed by Maximilian Borho. Made by Schön & Hauber or the Albert Hauber Co between Sept 1,1876 and 1882. Problems of some kind developed at the Freising factory toward the end of the Schön & Hauber period. Whatever was going on at the factory, caused the product design and over all workmanship to deteriorate. The decor was often incomplete, and or sloppy, as was the marking of the steins. Capacity marks were askew, incomplete and often missing entirely. Quality control marks were seldom applied. Model numbers were missing or incorrect. This probably triggered the sale of the factory by Adam Schön to Albert Hauber on August 6, 1878. This stein has 4 or 5mm mold number (129) and a quality control and decorator's mark, but no capacity mark. It's about 7-1/2" to the top of the pewter lid. “O St. Salvator, heiliger Mann, fleh unseres Reiches Kanzler an daß er mit seiner Steuerjagd uns nicht das Bier theurer macht.” (Oh, St. Salvator, holy man, appeal to the chancellor of our Reich
to not make our beer more expensive in his hunt for taxes.)
