This jug was designed by Wilhelm Ratelbeck and has been produced by Reinhold Merkelbach and also by Simon Peter Gerz I. The jug was also marketed for a short period of time through the sales consortium Steinzeugwerke.
Models have been made in 0.3L (model 1645d), 2L (model 1645c), 2.5L (model 1645b) and 3L (model 1645a) capacities.
