Cold War 1 liter stoneware mug "Organization Day 23D ENGR. BN. Oct. 3, 1964, HANAU, GER." United was constituted on 15 August 1917 in the National Army as the 23d Engineers and organized 5 September 1917 at Camp Meade, MD. Redesignated as the 23d Armored Engineer Battalion on 1 January 1942. Inactivated 10 November 1945 in Germany. Reorganized and redesignated 1 October 1957 as the 23d Engineer Battalion
