A 18th century stoneware stein, made in Saxony, (Rochlitz / Lunzenau).
Dated on the lid 1778.
The stein would originally have had a pewter foot ring, and most likely also a small ring around the body, just a centimeter below the top.
Because of the shape and coloring this type of stoneware is commonly referred to as "Rochlitzer Honigkrüge" ('Honey jugs' from Rochlitz).
Ref.: Horschik p 185-186.
Another 18th century tankard from the same region in my collection is here: [link]
