The Bodensee (or Lake Constance), is a 4,400 square mile body of water on the Rhine River bordering Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Images on the stein depict three tourist destinations on the lake including: Konstanz, a university city of more than 80,000 inhabitants with historical antecedents dating back to the Stone Age; Lindau, located on an island at the northern end of the lake, popular with sightseers for both its picturesque setting and its medieval town center; and Friedrichshafen, once the home of the Zeppelin Airship Company, which now hosts a museum housing the largest collection of Zeppelin memorabilia in the World.
