A very nice stoneware westerwald jug, topped with a highly detailed pewter lid.
This stein was produced in the 1880 ~1900 era. It is marked only with the model number 444, but it carries no factory markings. I do not know who produced this jug.
What I do know is that the pewter lid on this jug is of a quality rarely seen. A dragon's head over the spout, a standing lion on the top of the lid and a nice ball-shaped thumbrest.
There is no capacity marking. I estimate the capacity to be around 2 liters. The jug stands 26cm tall, not including the lid. The pewter lid itself adds another 10 centimeters to the height.
