Convention Stein - St. Charles

Villeroy & Boch

Uit de verzameling van William Griffin

The central image on this stein, which is also the host chapter’s logo, depicts the Münchner Kindl (Munich Child) on a shield above a wrap-around cityscape. Created as the coat-of-arms or archival seal of Munich in 1239, the Münchner Kindl has evolved from a hooded monk standing in front of Munich’s gate to a charming child, often depicted (as here) holding a large beer stein.

The Munich theme is continued on the lid inlay with its relief depiction of the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), one of Munich’s most popular landmarks. Located in the old city not far from the central Marienplatz, it’s two towers, topped with their onion-shaped copper domes, are among the defining images of the city’s skyline.
