Westerwald starjug

Uit de verzameling van Paul Van Eck

westerwald "starjug" (Sternkanne) from the 17th century.
A starjug was a common shape in the era. It gets it's name from it's decoration: a star shape decor of leaves, circles, etcetera.
This sort decoration has also quite often been used in the late 1800's on steins and pitchers when the so-called historismus style was in fashion. See for instance inventory number 11732 ([link]
This original jug has been restored a long time ago, probably when it was still in use. The handle has been replaced with a wooden (!) one.
